The Man

a word or a combination of words by which a person, place, or thing, a body or class, or any object of thought is designated, called, or known

Naming a product is one of the challenges we face as a brand. For us, the name should be instantly memorable, have a meaning which conveys certain qualities and roll off the tongue nicely. Get it right, and (with time) the brand-name may become synonymous with the item itself. Think Coke, Sellotape or Hoover, for example.

Get it wrong and you could be forgotten or perhaps worse still, remembered for all the wrong reasons. Not all publicity is good publicity. Consider the Toyota MR2, a fun little car whose name was a disaster in the French market. If you remember your school French, you’ll figure out why. It was ultimately renamed the Toyota MR.

We’ve a new product in our line-up that is in not in any way associated with the sporting event happening this year (or 4 years time, for that matter). We can’t tell you what we planned to call it because words and combinations of words associated with the event are brand-names owned by certain organisations which, may or may not have (alleged) connections with ‘The Man’.

Consequently, for the time-being at least, our new Reynolds 931 stainless steel super-bike will be called, the ‘X R931′.

So as a tribute to ‘The Man’, we bring you this classic clip from The School of Rock. Enjoy!
